The Marias ended their Cinema tour with two sold out shows in Los Angeles. Founded in LA, the quartet have achieved viral success through their EPs alone, with songs like Cariño and I Don’t Know You reaching millions of listeners on streaming platforms. Cinema is the band’s debut album, which has been nominated for a Grammy and had its lead single Hush become their first chart-topper since its release. It’s safe to say that this tour has been highly anticipated, especially by those who have been following along since Superclean, Vol. 1.
On Sunday, March 13th 2022, the excitement was palpable from the crowd at The Novo as everybody sang along and danced to the psychedelic soul masterpiece that is Cinema. Singer María Zardoya was born in Puerto Rico and creates a seamless blend of both English and Spanish songs to The Marias discography. The beautiful amalgamation of these two languages in their music is what makes the band so special to many of their admirers. Being a Mexican-American myself, it’s extremely reminiscent of the days of Selena. What they achieve with their bilingual, genre-bending musical talent is exciting and getting to hear it live is even better.
