“Yo era ateo, pero ahora creo” after seeing Nathy Peluso perform for the very first time in Los Angeles last week on Thursday, April 21st at the El Rey Theatre. This show was the first time that the Latin singer performed in LA, which is crazy considering the huge following she has amassed over the years. The entire front section of the audience consisted of fans who traveled just to see the show. “Que sueño poder viajar a Los Ángeles para verla crear arte en el escenario,” exclaimed Mariapaula Macedo who came all the way from Florida. “Que noche tan irreal,” said Kelly Villanueva who drove from Mexico along with the rest of her friends in the front row.
I’ve been following Nathy since La Sandunguera and have waited for this night for so long. It was everything I’ve ever wanted and more as a gorgeous live band played hits off of her newest studio album Calambre. Nathy belted vocals with ease while using the whole stage as her dance floor. Trumpet and trombone would rumble through the venue during iconic tracks like Mafiosa, while the entire crowd danced and sang along.
Nathy Peluso is an Argentina native who was raised in Spain. Her music is hard to summarize as she doesn’t allow genre categorizations to restrict what she sings. Already in her young career her catalog includes bachata, salsa, pop, rap, neosoul, hip house, plus many more (still waiting patiently for her pinche rockera arc though). Since the announcement of her first studio album Calambre in 2020, Nathy has received a Latin Grammy, topped multiple Spanish charts, and collaborated with other amazing artists such as Christina Aguilera, Karol G, and C. Tangana.
I urge everyone to see Nathy Peluso the next time she tours in the United States. I have a feeling the shows will only get bigger and bigger as time passes. If that prediction rings true, her intimate night at the El Rey Theatre will be one fans will remember for a very long time.
